Description: Metallic Crossings II is an improved version of my
old map, taking place at the spaceports of Planetoid 218H534A
(see storyline for more info). There are two big metal islands
in the east and west and two very small islands in the north and
south. A double bridge connects the big metal islands with T
shaped bridges jutting into the big seas to the north and south.
Urban world tracks "connect" several areas in the seas. Waterways
surround the islands. On the west side of the west island and the
east side of the east island are inlets. Ramps are scattered along
the edges of the islands. Each big island has two walls, two small
plateaus, and two big plateaus. The big plateaus contain the urban
world tile of the arm symbol surrounded by desert ruins. Wet desert
rocks are scattered throughout the map. Geothermals are numerous in
strategic locations such as plateaus, wall, starting locations,
islands, and bridges.
The main feature that sets this map apart from most metal maps is
the meteors. To keep from porcing (no offense porcers) the meteors
constantly rain down on the map. On the bitmap you'll see about two
or three yellow patches at a time. They're concentrated on a pretty
small area with about ten coming down at a time. I feel it keeps
gameplay more interesting. Likewise, the walls provide some defense,
but you can get around them by water.
There might be a few height problems on this map, I'm not sure how
many. I've tried to fix as much as possible. Enjoy this map, I know
I do!!!

Storyline: The Arm, during the early stages of the war between the
Arm and Core, created a trade route to ship supplies and equipment
for the building war. On the edge of the galaxy, a significant trade
route ran to the Arm headquarters. In the middle of the trade route
lie Planetoid 218H534A in System 14L895. This planetoid contained a
PlanetoidDesigns Inc. 578D power core with numerous vents that were
capped off by geothermal plants providing surface power. The power
core's main purpose was to provide power for thrusters keeping
Planetoid 218H534A in a stable orbit outside the asteroid fields in
the center of System 14L895. As a precautionary measure, Planetoid
218H534A was equipped by nuclear powered shield systems that vaporized
incoming asteroids before hitting the surface. The planetoid served
mainly as a refueling station for spaceships but also contained several
factories for war materials.
The Core, recognizing the significance of the planetoid, decided that
it must be destroyed. Capturing an Arm freighter to aid the
destruction of the planetoid, Core forces sneaked onto the planet and
began their devastating attack. The Core destroyed a fusion plant
powering a shield, paving the way for more Core forces to land. With
time the planetoid was decimated. The spaceports, factories, and power
plants destroyed; shield generators disabled. The Core, seeing no use
for Planetoid 218H534A, abandoned it.
Centuries have passed since Planetoid 218H534A was decimated. Burrower
Worms, silicon based life forms that burrows into metal, transforming
it into a rocky cocoon for protection, have started colonizing the
planetoid. It's orbit, having gone all this time without being
stabilized by thrusters, has brought the planetoid in the same orbit as
the asteroid belt. Without the protection of shield generators,
meteors constantly shower the planetoid. Yet, even in this hostile
environment, the Core and Arm see potential for their war machine.
